National Migration Registry

The national immigration registry, established by Law nº 13.445/2017, consists of entering data into the Federal Police system, being mandatory for all immigrant holders of a temporary visa or residence permit.

This procedure consists of the former National Registry of Foreigners or RNE, a procedure established by the revoked foreigner statute.

The registration will result in the issuance of the national migratory registration card that will be the immigrant's identification document in the country.

Registration with the Federal Police is mandatory if the immigrant holds a temporary visa or residence permit.

It is important to note that the registration process must be carried out within the period established by law:

– within 90 days from the date of arrival in the country, for temporary visa holders and

– within 30 days from the date of publication of the approval, if the residence permit has been approved in Brazil.

It is important to note that until the issuance of the national immigration registration card, the protocol issued on the date of registration will be accepted, and the immigrant will be guaranteed all the rights provided for in the new migration law, for a period of up to 180 days, extendable by the Federal Police.

Immigrants with a temporary visa who have entered the country must apply for registration within ninety days, counting from the date of entry into national territory, under penalty of applying the sanction provided for in item III of the caput of art. 307 of  Decree 9,199/2017 .

The immigrant to whom the request for a residence permit in the country has been granted must apply for registration within thirty days, counting from the date of publication of the granting of said request, under penalty of application of the sanction provided for in item IV of the caput. of art. 307 of  Decree 9,199/2017 .
